We couldn't get on the flight because of a visa approval letter and it messed up a lot of our plans. Now we are flying out tomorrow, the 6th, and will be spending two days in Seoul before we are off to Hanoi.
Long Story:
We went to bed late and couldn't sleep well in anticipation of finally putting our planning and money into action. The plan was to leave on Monday morning from Denver and arrive in Hanoi Tuesday night after over 19 hours of plan time and a 13 hour time loss. We woke up before 5am and arrived at the airport at about 6 - this is when our troubles began. The first problem was that all the computers for checking in were freezing. This wasn't too alarming as it happens all too often and was solved by a very tired and increasingly grumpy United employee. Next we made it through the check-in process and found that we needed to provide a Visa Approval Letter from the Vietnamese Government in order to receive our boring passes. The only available employee to help us find this out was, as you guessed, the grumpy lady from before. Although she was crabby she was very helpful and guided us to gentlemen that ended up getting us on the next flight and then several flights later out of our last layover. Now we are going to stay two nights in Seoul instead of the beginning of our time in Hanoi. After solving a slew of other problems that this caused with our scheduling we are back on track with the exception that we are still trying to get our flight from Vietnam to Cambodia moved back one day. The big lesson learned here is to get your Visa's purchased before traveling if needed. Let's hope we get enough right on this second time to actually leave the state.
